Researchers: Web Sex Searches Down, E-Commerce Up
POSTED: 12:01 pm EDT October 27, 2004
Internet users are doing fewer searches for sex and pornography and more for e-commerce and business than they were seven years ago.
At least that's the conclusion of University of Pittsburgh and Penn State researchers who wrote a new book studying our search engine habits. The book is called "Web Search: Public Searching of the Web."
Pitt professor Amanda Spink said 20 percent of all Web searches were for sex in 1997; now it's about 4 percent. But searches for e-commerce or businesses grew by 86 percent during the same period.
